Pensioner injured by delivery lorry
SHOPPERS have described the horrifying moment a woman was hit by a lorry in a Co-op car park.
The incident happened in Farnborough Road, Clifton, shortly before 9.30am yesterday, in the supermarket’s car park.
A woman in her 70s was taken to hospital with serious injuries, Nottinghamshire Police says.
A resident of Farnborough Road, who asked to remain anonymous, added: “It is very sad, I feel sorry for the woman.
“We’ve had two crashes in the area now in a number of days.”
Another shopper Gemma Louise, a cleaner who lives in Clifton, said she had popped into the shop before work for a drink when the incident unfolded in front of her.
The 31-year-old told the Post: “It was horrible.
“The car park at the Co-op is really small and the lorries have to reverse in. The lady walked behind the lorry.
“The two back tyres went over her. There was someone walking past and they went banging on the driver’s door to tell him to stop.
“The man who was serving [in store] ran to get his manager, and they came out with a blanket and held her hand.
“She was awake and she was shouting for someone to get her out.
“I ended up ringing my boss to tell them I was not coming in. I was too shaken up.”
Farnborough Road was closed until just after 4pm, between Southchurch Drive and Orford Avenue, while the Co-op also remained closed.
An expansive cordon was set up for most of the day while investigations took place.
It has been confirmed that the lorry involved was a delivery vehicle for Muller, a company which produces a wide range of dairy products.
A spokesman for Muller said: “We can confirm that one of our delivery vehicles was involved in an incident in Clifton this morning.
“We are offering Nottinghamshire Police our full support with their investigations.”
Sergeant David Sadler, of Nottinghamshire Police, added: “We are currently working to understand exactly what happened and would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident.
“If you have information you can call 101 quoting incident 155 of 13 October.”
