16 homes bid on pub site
COUNCILLORS WILL DECIDE NEXT WEEK ON SCHEME NEXT TO SUPERMARKET
PLANS for 16 homes on the site of a former pub in Wollaton could be given the green light next week.
Developers have proposed that the homes would be built on the site of Middletons, in Trowell Road, which closed in July 2017.
The site also neighbours the former Waitrose site – which will soon open as a Lidl supermarket.
If approved, the plans would lead to two four beds, eight three beds and six two-bed homes come to the area.
The four-bed homes and six of the three-bed homes would also have gardens and on-site parking.
The application added that “two of the three-bed units and the twobed units do not have gardens and dedicated parking bays within a more communal arrangement”.
Swish Architecture Ltd made the application for planning permission for the site on behalf of Swan Homes.
There was some concern about safety from residents because homes would be built next to Wollaton House Day Nursery, in Bridge Road.
Neighbours were worried about the impact the homes would have “on the ability to safely access the day nursery and other properties”.
A report to Nottingham City Council’s planning committee revealed there were 15 letters of objection and one letter of support from residents.
Some feared the plans would increase congestion along Bridge Road which is “already difficult for emergency vehicles and refuse vehicles to access”. They said the development was “out of keeping” with other homes in the neighbourbood.
The etter of support said the development “will make a positive contribution to the area and bring into use a vacant brownfield site”.
Planning officers believe the plans were “felt to be appropriate for Wollaton and would help to widen the range of accommodation in what is a predominantly family housing area”.
A decision will be made by councillors on Wednesday.
