Teenager stabbed in living room by masked intruder
ATTACKER FOLLOWED DELIVERY DRIVER THROUGH DOOR TO FLATS
PEOPLE have spoken of their shock after hearing about the stabbing of a teenager inside a city centre flat.
The incident took place in Beck Street at 6.10pm on Tuesday.
Police say the masked offender followed a delivery driver through the door to a flat complex before launching the vicious attack in a 19-year-old’s living room.
The victim suffered a “significant cut to his hand” as well as a stab wound to his thigh. He was taken to hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
People in the city centre said they were concerned to hear about the incident.
Sarah Shaw, 27, said: “I’ve read about what’s happened - it’s awful.
“I can’t imagine how scary that would have been. I often walk around here on my way to or from work, so it’s not good to hear about. I just hope whoever it is is OK.”
One Beck Street resident, who lives in a flat but wishes to stay anonymous, said: “I saw a lot of police and an ambulance. I don’t feel safe around here a lot of the time. I try not to walk by myself when it’s dark.
“When this sort of thing happens of course it’s going to worry you. But there are some lovely people who live around here.”
Gilly Hussain said: “I heard about what happened. I couldn’t believe it, I was shocked.”
Police are now appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Andy Buxton said: “Luckily the victim’s injuries are not life-threatening, but it is clearly distressing for his family and friends and for people who live in this area.
“My team have been working to establish who was behind the attack and we are determined to bring them to justice.”
Mr Buxton said officers who were first at the scene found “a man with serious injuries to his hand and leg”.
“It was reported that he was in his living room when a masked man burst in and attacked him,” he said. “The offender then fled on foot. “Detectives continue to investigate local CCTV footage and are asking for anyone who saw anyone suspicious in the area to come forward to help with our enquiries.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the force on 101, quoting incident 484 of January 5.
