A PENSIONER living opposite the scene where a bus crashed into a wall said the impact “literally shook” his home.

Emergency services were called to reports of a bus crash in Carlton Hill near to the junction with Cromwell Street, yesterday at around 7.45am.

One man was said to have injuries not described as life altering and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Video footage taken by a passerby showed the Lilac double-decker bus off the road and wedged on a small wall surrounded by debris.

Parts of the front of the bus and the windscreen appeared to be badly damaged.

Nottingham City Transport tweeted about delays to the Lilac bus line and said diversions were in place.

As recovery vehicles arrived at the scene shortly before 9am, residents described the incident.

Bernard Leaper, 75, who lives opposite, said: “The house literally shook. I was expecting the dustbin men but then I heard a loud rumble. I thought it was a lorry but I came outside a few minutes later and saw the bus. “We’ve had a few incidents on here, though, and at my age it takes a lot to shock me.”

Jason Maxfield, 48, said: “I was walking past on my way to the shops around 8.30am when I saw the bus crashed into the wall.

“The police were already here. I was quite surprised to see a bus in that way – but it was probably quite empty at that time.”

The road was partially closed. A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: “Emergency services were called at 7.45am this morning (Thursday 14 January 2021) following a bus crashing into a wall in Main Street in Carlton.” A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews from Carlton and Highfields have attended a bus in collision with a wall on Carlton Hill in Gedling. “Crews assisted the driver out of the vehicle and made the scene safe.”
