125 jobs on way if Aldi gets OK

JOBS could be up for grabs at a planned new Aldi supermarket on a new trade park in Nottingham.

Up to 125 roles would be created by the development at Teal Park, just off the A612 Colwick Loop Road, developers say.

Detailed plans have been submitted and developers confirmed Aldi had agreed to be the “anchor” for the site.

It is proposed the centre would include an additional four shops, a children’s day nursery and a pub.

Mark Edwards, managing director of AC Lloyd Commercial, one of the firms behind the development, said Aldi’s interest in opening at Teal Park in Nottingham was a great endorsement of the development.

“The local centre would create up to 125 FTE [full-time employment] jobs for people at a difficult time due to Covid-19 and would be a further boost for the local economy,” he said.

“Despite the coronavirus pandemic, we have continued to attract interest in the site and the plans we have put forward to Gedling Borough Council include creating an additional four retail units at the same time as the Aldi supermarket. “We have received keen interest from operators for these units and negotiations are continuing.”

If the plans are approved, it is hoped work would start in the autumn and be completed in spring next year.

Tool Station, Screwfix and Howdens have already agreed deals to open in new units, while the site will also include a care home for people with residential and residential dementia care needs.

Richard Croft, director at Henry Davidson Developments, added: “This would be another significant milestone for Teal Park and, if planning is granted, would bring forward much-needed facilities for the growing community and a real boost for local job creation in these extremely challenging times.

“Stainforth Construction is already on site and working in line with Government guidelines to build the units on the trade park which have already secured planning permission.”

Teal Park is being built next to the vast Rivendell housing estate, between Netherfield and Stoke Bardolph, near the Victoria Retail Park.

The housing development has been described as a ‘mini-city’ by a council leader and more than 800 properties are expected to be built in total. The estate has been named Rivendell as a nod to the area’s link with The Lord Of The Rings author JRR Tolkien.
