THE director of a healthy food shop with the word “clean” in its name says he has learned a lot from getting zero stars for hygiene.

Cheff – which stands for “Clean, Healthy, Easy Fresh Food” – sells healthy food and offers takeaways at Trent Boulevard, Lady Bay.

It was visited by Rushcliffe Borough Council inspectors on December 19.

After the inspection, Cheff ’s hygienic food handling was deemed to require improvement.

Meanwhile, major improvement was necessary when it came to the management of food safety and cleanliness and the condition of the facilities and building.

But director Adam Sinnott says he learned a lot from the inspection and has made the necessary changes.

He said: “I am deeply saddened by the recent rating received. It has been very difficult during this past year, especially as we were only a year old when the pandemic started.

“We have had to grow and learn as we go and, unfortunately, with things going quiet and sometimes being forced to shut, we have had a lot of food waste which has been thrown away.

“We have done everything to comply.

“All recommended works have been completed.

“I have learned so much during this process and, as soon as I was made aware of the problem, I made a very tough decision to close the doors and totally refurbish the back area and reinstate our contract with Nottingham Pest Control.

“They came out the same day and have revisited three more times at my request to ensure we have no pests getting in and also carried out a deep clean inside and out and renew all paperwork. Only once we received the all-clear from pest control did we reopen to the public.

“It is something that I will never forget and now we have corrected all issues and are just awaiting our revisit in the coming weeks. It’s something I as a new business owner will learn from and grow.”

Overall, the inspection concluded urgent improvement was necessary at Cheff. The shop opened in a former locksmiths in 2018.

Mr Sinnott continued: “I massively depend on support from locals and they have done nothing but support us from the beginning and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

“From helping us raise over £5,000 to provide free meals to our local community during the first lockdown to popping in for a coffee or some healthy food.

“We look forward to further supporting our local community and we still want to bring healthy food to Nottingham.

“We encourage anyone to reach out to us and we invite anybody who wants to come in and look around to do so.”
