ARDLEY IS LOOKING TO STRIKE RIGHT BALANCE AT NOTTS

-

NOTTS County’s search for new signings is an ongoing process as they look to bolster their promotion prospects.

The Magpies are thought to be in the market for a centreback and a left-sided defender for the remainder of the campaign, having seen a deal for a Premier League youngster fall through last week.

Surgery on Damien Mccrory’s knee has left Notts short of cover and, ideally, Notts would like a player who can play leftback and in the centre of defence.

But Magpies boss Neal Ardley says he is taking his time choosing the next player he adds to the squad and is comforted in the knowledge that the National League does not have a transfer window, which means he is under no pressure to rush a decision.

Asked whether a new signing was imminent, Ardley said: “No, not at the moment.

“We’re working hard to try and make sure whoever we bring in is the right person.

“We don’t want to go and jump the gun and then realise that somebody we would have preferred would become available.

“We’re working hard and we’re close to having options on that list. But it’s not something we can just click our fingers and make happen.”

The likelihood is that the new arrival will be a loan addition, rather than a permanent deal.

Only five loanees are permitted in a match-day squad and Notts already have four on their books, in Calvin Miller, Inih Effiong, Jimmy Knowles and Matty Wolfe.

“We’ve got a loan space available, but we have only got one space to make the five up,” continued Ardley.

“All things are on the table still but, certainly, if you do a permanent deal you might end up with a player who will want longer than just the rest of this season. Then you’re eating into what you might be looking at doing in the summer.” ■■The switch of tonight’s fixture against Solihull Moors, made because heavy snow would have put the game in doubt, means Notts’ away trip against the Moors will be on Tuesday, April 13 (7.45pm).
