New 315-pupil primary school planned as part of development
PLANS have been submitted for a 315-place primary school in Bingham, just off the A46.
The school would be built on land off Widnall Drive, near an area allocated for a huge 1,050-home development.
The school would be accompanied by a 26-place nursery if plans put forward by Nottinghamshire County Council are approved.
The development would be completed under two phases - the first being a school built with 210 places for children along with the nursery, with the second phase extending the school to allow enough space for 315 pupils.
An application for outline planning permission for up to 1,050 residential dwellings in Bingham was granted in December, 2013.
A new primary school, community centre and park was approved as part of those plans, named the Romans Quarter development.
Residents have previously told the Post about fears of increased traffic when all the homes are eventually built.
The application for the primary school states: “Bingham currently hosts a population of approximately 9,000, due to expand with the proposed housing developments of 1,050 dwellings to the north of the town.”
It continues: “The location of the school has been reviewed and tested throughout the development of the masterplan to ensure it is accessible, allowing safe, walking routes to school, located appropriately to serve both this development, the surrounding communities and has the potential to expand the school.
“This application and its supporting documents propose a development which makes a strong case for the need for the new Bingham Primary School building and grounds and shows how the impacts from developing on this new site are carefully identified and adequately addressed.”
