100 firefighters tackled huge industrial site blaze
CREWS remained at the scene of a huge industrial fire in Nottingham yesterday.
Investigations are under way to establish the cause of the blaze at the site in Harrimans Lane, Dunkirk.
Police, ambulance and fire crews were called out on Thursday afternoon, with nearly 100 firefighters attending the peak.
Large plumes of smoke could be seen for miles across Nottinghamshire, with the fumes from a scrap pile still rising yesterday morning.
Damien West, area manager for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said firefighters were faced with a “rapidly developing fire” but that there had been no reported injuries.
Speaking yesterday morning, incident commander and group manager Phil Revil said: “The fire started at about 5.30pm last night at Harrimans Lane, at the peak we had 15 appliances, an aerial ladder platform and high volume pump in attendance.
“Crews have been tirelessly working through the night to extinguish the fire and control the spread.
“We’ve currently got six appliances, working with the on-site owners to separate the pile and extinguish it.
“At this moment in time we’ve got no idea what caused the fire.
“The site was working when the fire was observed.
“There’s nothing to suggest it was malicious but we will be working today with our fire investigation team to try and identify the exact cause.
“I appreciate the patience the businesses have shown us in the local area.”
