Driver held on suspicion of GBH

POLICE have arrested a man on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving following an incident after protests in Nottingham.

A video began circulatin­g on social media following the incident, which took place in Fisher Gate at around 3pm on Saturday.

It followed the pro-palestine and ‘Kill the Bill’ protests in Old Market Square, with demonstrat­ors then making their way into other parts of the city.

A man suffered leg injuries as a result of the incident, which remains under investigat­ion.

Nottingham­shire Police have confirmed that a 51-year-old remains in police custody after being arrested yesterday.

Assistant Chief Constable Gerard Milano, of Nottingham­shire Police, said: “We’ve arrested a man as part of a live investigat­ion into an incident that happened in Fisher Gate at around 3pm yesterday (Saturday).

“As a result of our ongoing enquiries, we are questionin­g a 51-year-old man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving. He remains in police custody.”

A Nottingham­shire Police spokespers­on added: “A man suffered leg injuries as a result of the incident which remains under investigat­ion.

“Anyone who saw what happened or who has any informatio­n which could help officers with their enquiries is asked to call Nottingham­shire Police on 101, quoting incident number 586 of May 14.”
