Why do they approve such daft schemes?

-

CONGRATULATIONS to Tina Archer (“Permit plans still lack convincing evidence”, Opinion, June 22) on highlighting the significant incompetence and deceitful way that city council consultations are regularly organised.

I live on one of the many roads in Wollaton that are being forced to have a permit scheme despite the complete lack of evidence that this is really needed or the best solution.

I am angry at the complete arrogance of Councillor Steve Battlemuch and his refusal to come along and inspect recent evidence. He seems to be responding to a small selfish minority who requested the scheme. I do not believe that the majority of people want it and certainly the evidence to justify it does not exist.

Councillor Battlemuch has not thought through the long-term issues and problems that the permits system causes.

I am sure in a few months’ time he will be wanting to expand it to many more roads and will use the same seriously flawed method of consultations that fail to confirm that there really is a problem before trying to fix it.

I was interested to hear that Councillor Battlemuch, who also lives in Wollaton himself, is not demanding a permit scheme on his own road even though it usually sees a higher number of parked cars than Parkside or most of the roads in the current scheme.

It is a pity that the current city council leadership is so weak and does not care how much money is wasted on futile schemes.

Councillor Mellen really should take more personal interest in checking the evidence himself before rubber-stamping daft schemes and indeed should come along to see how empty most roads are.
