Woman fined £1,100 after telling police she didn’t know why she was at illegal party

-

A WOMAN told police she didn’t know where she was when she was found on a sofa at an illegal party of 60 to 70 students.

Police attended Riverside Point, Radmarsh Road, Lenton, at 4.50am on November 22 last year amid claims of fireworks being set off and a breach of the Covid regulations.

As officers arrived, students started moving away towards accommodation blocks and some covered their faces.

One officer found two females in a communal area.

One was Rojan Babay, 20, of Midland Way, Lenton, who was on a sofa claiming not to know where she was and why she was there.

She provided her name and date of birth and showed an officer her Instagram account in the same name.

The officer advised them they would receive a fixed penalty notice for breaching the coronavirus regulations.

The officer had explained that, if the fine was paid there was no requirement to go to court and she was told to leave the address.

However, Nottingham magistrates heard on Tuesday that she did not pay the fixed penalty.

A panel of three magistrates heard the case against Babay.

She was accused of participating in an indoor gathering on November 22 which consisted of two or more people at Riverside Point and they found the matter proved in her absence.

She was fined £1,100, ordered to pay costs of £200 and a victim surcharge of £110.
