Longstaff could be on radar
NOTTINGHAM Forest have been linked with Newcastle United’s Matty Longstaff as they aim to strengthen in midfield before the summer transfer window closes.
Three players have been added to the Reds’ ranks so far, in Ethan Horvath, Philip Zinckernagel and Jordi Oseitutu.
But more signings are required – with the centre of the pitch an area in need of additional resources.
Forest would like to bring back Manchester United youngster James Garner after his successful loan spell in the second half of last season but face competition from elsewhere.
And, according to The Sun, Longstaff is also on their radar, with the Reds “one of a few interested” in securing his services.
Forest have been linked with the 21-year-old before, and Chroniclelive report the Magpies have now “agreed” to let him leave on loan.
They claim he is attracting interest from Sheffield United, Blackburn Rovers and Huddersfield Town. Middlesbrough, West Bromwich Albion, Derby County and Anderlecht have previously been mentioned as being among his admirers.
Longstaff made only five appearances for Newcastle last term and was not on the bench for his team’s Premier League opener against West Ham United at the weekend.
Chroniclelive say: “With Joe Willock arriving from Arsenal and set to play a major role this term, the Magpies need to offload midfielders in order to bring in cover in other positions.
“Longstaff had chances to join Scottish Premiership sides earlier in the summer but is now hoping for a move to the Sky Bet Championship.”
