Fly the flag for first-ever Nottinghamshire Day!
THE county tomorrow celebrates its first Nottinghamshire Day with residents, businesses and organisations encouraged to share what they feel makes Notts amazing.
Organised by Nottinghamshire County Council, the day will see the Nottinghamshire flag raised at County Hall. However, the celebrations will be primarily virtual this year given the ongoing pandemic.
Residents have been asked to share what they love about where they live on social media using hashtag #Nottsday.
Posters can also be downloaded from the council website and Facebook users can also use a Nottinghamshire-themed frame for their profile picture.
It is the first official Nottinghamshire Day to have been organised and to make this year’s “event” as sustainable as possible, the council has consciously decided against producing any non-recyclable marketing materials, and instead is encouraging residents to download and utilise some of the digital assets on its website.
The local economy is one of the key themes of Nottinghamshire Day, and the day will also be used to promote local businesses.
A number of online assets and posters with the #Shoplocal and #Supportlocalbusiness messages have been made, and will continue with the theme of encouraging people to support Nottinghamshire businesses on the day itself.
Businesses are encouraged to display these in their premises and online channels on Nottinghamshire Day as a way of showing pride.
In addition to the county flag, it is proposed to fly the union flag, and for the county and union flag to be flown permanently afterwards.
This will complement the approach that the Government will take in flying the Nottinghamshire flag at Parliament.
County council leader Ben Bradley MP said he was delighted that Nottinghamshire now had an official day to celebrate all that is good about our county.
He said: “Many other counties have a celebratory day where they raise and promote their assets and we have plenty of those to promote.
“It is only right that we should be proud of our unique history and this is a date which we can now be put in our diaries to celebrate in future years on a much broader and grander scale.”
In future years, the county council plans to work with district and borough councils, businesses and attractions to promote Nottinghamshire Day and encourage people to explore the towns and countryside.
The county council will be dedicating its social media channels on the day to celebrate Nottinghamshire Day.
Twitter users can send pictures and videos using the hashtag #Nottsday.
