NEW DESSERT SHOP HOPING FOR A SWEET-TOOTHED TASTE OF SUCCESS

SWEET-TOOTHED customers couldn’t wait to get stuck into the delicious delights at Arnold’s first dessert cafe.

As soon as Dessert Dr opened its doors, a queue of customers piled into the new business, which specialises in freshly-made waffles, crepes, cookie dough and ice cream.

Antoine Walker, co-owner of the family-run business, was working at Currys PC World in Newark until recently before deciding on a career change.

“I’ve been an engineer for nine years fixing laptops and didn’t see a way of moving up.

“Hopefully if this goes well I want to open another one but a lot bigger with more seating.”

Dessert Dr has opened in the former Mirage vape shop in Front Street.

Antoine has gone into business with his brother Pierre and staff include their mother Chyrel as well as other relatives.

The 32-year-old and his partner Charlotte Millett, who live near Arnold, both have a sweet tooth, inspiring him to open his own shop when he saw a gap in the market.

“We love dessert and we got into the habit of ordering them after dinner. There was nothing around here so we ordered from other dessert shops but they took ages to deliver.

“I asked a lot of people what desserts they liked as well as my favourites,” said Antoine, who is partial to white chocolate chip cookie dough, while Charlotte’s ideal dessert is a Ferrero Rocher waffle.

Customers can takeaway or eat in at the 16-seater cafe and, once the business has found its feet, a delivery option will be added.

Options include chocolate orange cake, snowball waffles topped with Ferrero Rocher, marshmallows, strawberries and white chocolate sauce, Malteser brownies, peanut butter cookie dough and banoffee crepes.

Milkshakes come in flavours including banana, strawberry, Aero and Oreo.

Nearly 20 flavours of ice cream, such as Peppa Pig bubble gum and cookies and cream, are on the menu and four include biscoff, which are vegan-friendly.

“My best mate came up with the name. The waffle and crepes come with a syringe of chocolate sauce and he said Dessert Dr – that is a good name.”

Dessert Dr will be open seven days a week, from 2pm to 11pm.
