CHANGES are “definitely needed” say people in Carlton who feel the area has become “run down”.

Work is under way in Carlton at the moment to improve the area.

This includes the introduction of electric charging stations for cars.

The Post spoke to residents to ask them what they think about the new changes, and changes to come.

Carol Burton, 45 and selfemployed from Gedling, said:

“The pavements are awful down here in Carlton, and this car park [at Carlton Square] hasn’t been finished yet. Over the years, I have seen improvements and I think it’s really good that more changes are going to be made. Carlton shouldn’t be forgotten about like some areas in Nottingham. I’ve seen there’s some new places that have opened, the Papa Johns, I’m not a fan of that but the young people might like it.”

James Wilson, 71 retired, who lives in Carlton also felt changes were needed.

“The area is a bit run down at the moment, there’s a few places that have opened, a pizza place and a bar,” he said. “It’s a good area to live, I’m happy with what’s here [at Carlton Square] like the fruit and veg store.”

Kevin Sherlock, 71, is retired and lives in Carlton, which he describes as a nice area. He added: like know the anyone “I’ve charging noticed in Carlton points, a few with I things, don’t an electric car though. We’ve got more or less everything here. The roads round here are terrible.” Mr Sherlock has heard that once the Carlton Square car park is complete, there may be fewer parking spaces which he’s concerned about as “shops are going to suffer” if that happens to be the case. John Carr, 78, from Carlton, said: “For the amount of money they’re putting into the place, I expect everything to be perfect once it’s finished. The electric car stations are pointless but I definitely think it’s a good idea to re-do all these roads and car parks.” Deputy Leader of Gedling Borough Council, Councillor Michael Payne said: “Works to improve Carlton Square are nearly complete and will include a new car park entrance and spaces for electric vehicle points as part of our commitment to be more sustainable. “Customers visiting the square will also see safer access between the car park and shopping area, a new pedestrian route as well as refurbished benches, bins and bollards. the “The council’s improvements plans to revitalise are part its of town centres and we are also in communication with the owners of the shopping precinct to see what more can be done to improve it and attract more businesses to boost the local economy.”
