Machete charge after car is stopped and searched
A MAN has been charged after police officers stopped a car and allegedly discovered a machete.
Nottinghamshire Police says officers pulled over a car in Woodhouse Way, Bilborough, and that the weapon was found during a search.
Tavelle Brown, 31, of Poyser Close, New Basford, was charged with possession of a bladed article, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.
He was also charged with assault and attempted theft in relation to a shoplifting in West Bridgford on Friday, August 20, during which a member of staff was reportedly pushed over.
He has been released on bail to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, December 8.
Sergeant Sarah Merrall, from the West Bridgford neighbourhood policing team, said: “We are committed to taking knives and indeed other weapons off the street, and the swift actions of officers meant a machete was seized and is out of circulation.
“Knife-related crime has a devastating impact on people’s lives on all sides, both victims and perpetrators, and the immense harm and upset it can cause within wider communities.
“This is why we continue to work proactively on any intelligence or reports we receive, and Operation Sceptre is a great opportunity to bolster and shine a spotlight on the work we do year-round.
“We understand the impact these incidents have on business owners and shop workers.
“Through engagement and neighbourhood surveys, we also know that this is a priority for them, so a host of both proactive patrols and thorough enquiries take place as part of our work to tackle such incidents. Enquiries into both the machete discovery and the shop theft remain ongoing.”
