MOST CORONAVIRUS PATIENTS IN CRITICAL CARE UNVACCINATED

-

THE majority of patients in the city’s critical care units with coronavirus are unvaccinated, figures show.

Staff at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust – which runs the Queen’s Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital – confirmed there were currently 14 patients with Covid-19 in critical care. And they said that 12 of them were not vaccinated.

The Omicron variant has refocused attention on vaccination rates as data shows Nottingham as one of the regions with the lowest booster uptakes across the country.

It comes as latest NHS England data reveals that just half of the population aged 50 or over have received an extra dose up to December 5.

Meanwhile, 1,543 new Covid cases have been recorded in the week leading up to December 5 – an increase of more than 300 cases on the previous week.

The figures are based on the number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 with either a lab-reported or rapid lateral flow test.

The peak of hospitalisations at NUH in the last week was reached on November 30 with 102 beds occupied by Covid patients.

The figures coincided the second Omicron case in Nottinghamshire being confirmed.
