A STREET in Nottinghamshire has been named one of the “most expensive” roads in the East Midlands, and residents have praised the area and the brilliant community atmosphere.

According to Halifax Bank, Croft Road, in Edwalton, is one of the most expensive streets with an average house price of a whopping £1,348,000.

The UK’S top 10 most expensive streets are all in London and have an average price tag of a colossal £19 million.

Croft Road comes in 9th place of the most expensive roads in the East Midlands, as Northampton follows in 10th with an average house price of £1,233,000 on Golf Lane.

The Post visited the road to ask residents their reasons for living there, and why they think it is one of the most expensive.

Bee Brown, 57, a resident of Croft Road, thinks there’s a great community vibe and loves the proximity to the city.

She said: “It’s lovely, it’s absolutely fabulous.

“We have a great Whatsapp group with everyone on the road, there’s very much a community vibe.

“It’s quiet, it’s in good proximity of everything.

“It’s walkable to West Bridgford and the city.

“Most people stay here for years.”

Lubana Zaman, 51, who has lived in the street for more than 20 years, said the main reason for moving was for the nearby schools.

She said: “There are lots of families with children, the schools here are really nice - we moved for the schools

“People stay for decades. It’s a got a good community vibe, the council maintains the neighbourhood.”

Mrs Zaman explained how the area has changed since she first moved in.

She added: “The area has really developed, there are quite good cafes and restaurants - it’s got good dining places. It used to be quite quiet but now it’s got more around.”

The top three most expensive streets in the region can all be found in Leicester, with Benscliffe Road (£3,288,000) topping the pile, followed by Holmewood Drive (£1,940,000) and Ulverscroft Lane (£1,719,000).

A resident of the street, who wished to remain anonymous, has lived in the area for over 35 years.

He said: “It’s a very nice friendly road.

“Before Covid we used to all meet together for social occasions.

“We do love the area, it’s a popular place to live.

“We go on lots of walks, especially down Grantham canal.”

However, Anne Goodrich, 60, who lives on a neighbouring street, thinks the area is getting worse due to new developments, but thinks the links to the city are great.

She said: “I’ve lived here 25 years, the area is very different.

“It’s too overcrowded and the infrastructure is suffering.

“There aren’t enough doctors or schools. I wouldn’t tell people to move here.

“The schools here are good, that’s one of the main reasons we came.

“The bus services to the city are also really good. I do like living here, but it has changed.”

Residents from the area have previously praised the area for it’s exceptional schools and said it’s ‘incredibly desirable.’
