Festive windfall for school after dad and son’s creative efforts
A SCHOOL in Nottingham has received a festive donation of £5,000 in time for Christmas after an employee at Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Chesterfield and his son won a national competition to design a festive card.
Dan Barrett, a HR Manager who works at Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Chesterfield, took part in a Uk-wide competition with his son Noah that asked Amazon employees and their families to create a festive card.
The creative brief, which was overseen by Barnardo’s, asked Amazon’s budding artist community to design a festive card with a theme of “our time to shine.”
Barnardo’s hopes the Amazon competition will highlight the important work being done by charities and community organisations in Nottingham and around the UK.
Entries, judged by Barnardo’s, were scored on the inclusion of festive elements, inclusivity, positivity, creativity and appropriateness for all audiences. Dan and Noah’s winning entry features snowmen on a winter’s day.
The card will be printed on seeded paper, meaning recipients can plant the card and grow wildflowers.
After coming first in the 0-11-year-old category, Noah was crowned the overall national winner and received a £5,000 donation, which he has given to his own primary school, The Lanes Primary School in Chilwell. Noah also won a £100 Amazon gift card for his personal use.
Speaking of his son’s triumph, Dan said: “In our family, the festive season is the highlight of our year and this one will be even more special thanks to winning this competition. We’re so pleased to be winners and to be able to make such a great donation to a brilliant school is just fantastic!”
Mrs Jo Revill, head teacher at The Lanes Primary School, said: “On behalf of all the staff and pupils of The Lanes Primary School, I want to say thank you very much to Noah for donating his prize to us - we really appreciate it.”
Richard Cowlishaw-ellison, site leader at Amazon in Chesterfield, added: “Noah’s design is fantastic and everyone at Amazon is Chesterfield is so proud that a member of our team has won the national competition.
“We hope the donation to The Lanes Primary School gives the staff and pupils a great lift as they head off to enjoy a well-deserved break this Christmas.”
The festive card competition is part Amazon’s programme to support the communities around its operating locations across the UK with a variety of charitable initiatives.
