First phase of 30 bus depot homes nearly completed

WORK continues on a new housing development on the site of a former bus depot – with the first phase of 30 homes almost completed.

The Barton Quarter development, on the former Barton’s site in Chilwell involves four phases and when it is completed will have 250 new homes.

Residents have been impressed with the new housing between Queens Road West and Chilwell High Road.

Nara Kumma, a 36-year-old IT consultant, said he welcomed the new homes.

“We don’t mind them – there’s no disturbance,” he said. “The new houses coming are good for the area.

“We always welcome new people in the community. I’ve seen that they’re on the market.”

Another resident, data analyst Jonathan Harper, 38, said: “We’ve had houses built around here recently – so the only annoyance is the amount of construction vehicles going by and the noise.

“We do live on a main road anyway so it’s not that much of an issue.

“They do look kind of fancy but I’m guessing they’re going to be expensive.

“We do need houses – once it’s fully done it will probably be a nice addition.

“As long as people can actually afford to live in them – I don’t see any problems with building new houses around here.”

Julie Hillyard, 75, said: “I think they look nice – it’s better than the wasteland it was. There’s trains, buses, trams and plenty of shops [in the area].

“We are on a main road anyway so [the traffic] won’t make a lot of difference.

“It does when they’re actually doing them – you get all the mess and dust.

“I’ve never had so much dust as I have now.”

A spokeswoman for Knight Frank, one of the agents marketing the development, previously told the Post: “In terms of what we have got at the moment, we have got a mixture of two, three and four-bed luxury homes with a bit of a difference, I suppose.

“They have got quite a lot of character.

“There’s no particular sort of target market, we have had a range of buyers: first-time buyers, homeowners looking to upsize, downsize and locals, people moving to the area.”

According to the Barton Quarter webiste, prices start from £335,000 for a two-bedroom “Carriage House”, from £365,000 for a three-bedroom house and from £440,000 for a fourbedroom house.
