Mixed views on new build apartments
DEVLOPMENT TAKING SHAPE ON FORMER ‘EYESORE’ SITE
NEW apartments replacing an “eyesore” site in West Bridgford have prompted a mixed reaction.
Bridgford Point, which offers oneand two-bedroom apartments on the corner of Scarrington Road and Lady Bay Bridge, is still under construction.
The site, near the City Ground and Trent Bridge, was formerly derelict – and has previously labelled as an “eyesore”.
Some living nearby say they have no problems with the development – while others still have their reservations.
Nearby resident Phil Mcgrath, 68, an estate agent, said: “I’ve got no problem with it at all.
“There’s already enough new places around here – so a few more doesn’t matter.
“The area can cope.
“It’s parking more than anything – but I think there’s enough parking at the new place accommodating for that.
“Parking around here is a problem because of the football and the cricket.
“Generally more people isn’t a problem.
“There’s enough buses to town, there’s shops and pubs.
“Another 40, 50 or something flats isn’t going to be a problem. “It’s a residential area.” Dale Antcliff, 54, who works in telesales and lives nearby, said: “It just seems like everything is encroaching. “There’s not the room for it. “Everything is just encroaching – almost walling this sector of Bridgford off and the community.
“Even though most of these are student lets or rents. It’s not the same as it used to be when I was a kid.
“My biggest concern is putting more traffic in areas.
“I was surprised at how big that thing is actually. I really don’t like it – I like things staying old.”
Angela Finn, 51, a teacher, said: “It kind of just appeared.
“It’s bigger than I thought it would be. It’s OK – I’ve kind of just got used to it now.
“I’m interested to see how big it is when it’s built because I think it is going to be three storeys by the look of it.
“I didn’t think it would be that big and I don’t know whether it’s going to overlook me or not. Living in Bridgford there’s always things going up – there’s always building.
“I was notified about it – it wasn’t like it just sprung up there. I’ve not found it too disruptive. When there’s spare land in Bridgford it tends to be accommodation that’s built. It was just disused land – so I suppose it’s a good thing that it brings accommodation into the area.”
