The Dapper Spaniel up for sale as owners focus on catering and events

-

A HOMELY country pub that was renowned for serving first-class food has gone on the market.

Customers were saddened when the dog-friendly Dapper Spaniel called last orders.

The gastro pub, in Rolleston, changed from Indian restaurant Gurkha One, opening in March 2019 with a mouth-watering à la carte menu and Sunday roasts, plus a huge selection of gins and craft ale behind the bar in Staythorpe Road.

Animal-loving owners chef Karl Tyler and his partner Kat Galvin named the business after their dapper doggy, Springer Spaniel Archie, and made sure dogs were welcome. The property underwent a stylish facelift, replacing the orange and purple walls with dog-print wallpaper, complemented by neutral shades and a splash of blue. The pub also has the added bonus of five bedrooms where guests could stay overnight.

As well as it being home-fromhome for four-legged visitors, the pub served restaurant-quality food, with Karl conjuring up dishes such as hot-smoked maple-cured salmon, rack of new season lamb and a luxurious brown crab and native lobster risotto.

Customers described the food as superb, with fantastic service. One said: “The Sunday lunches are the best I’ve had, and it’s nice to go out and not have standard ‘pub grub’ but something of restaurant quality in a lovely village pub.”

The former owners left the pub to focus on running their catering and events company, Dapper Hospitality, covering weddings, corporate events and private dining. They also have the Streatery, a pizza and craft beer van, which is available for hire.

The pub has been listed by commercial property agents FHP, which describes it as fully refurbished with a “stunning” covered terrace and outdoor bar.

The lease is £25,000 a year.
