Takeaway set to reopen

NEW OWNERS AFTER CLOSURE PREVIOUSLY PREVENTED BUSINESS FROM OPERATING

RESIDENTS in Sutton-in-ashfield claim the closure of a troublesome takeaway has turned around the town’s fortunes.

Grillo’s, in Mansfield Road, was closed last August for three months after a fight was reported to have broken out, with people armed with knives and hammers, and 10 people were arrested on suspicion of affray in connection with the incident.

The closure prevented the business from operating, excluding the owner and any other person from entering the premises, including the flat above.

However, a sign at the front of the store states new owners will be opening the takeaway soon.

Police previously said they received multiple reports of antisocial behaviour, criminal damage, threats being made and people shouting near the takeaway.

Now, residents have spoken out about how the area has changed since the takeaway’s closure.

Sandra Freedman, 52, said: “That was difficult, there was a lot of trouble there for a while, I think it affected a few businesses on the street.

“You’d always hear about issues at Grillo’s and I think it’s where a lot of young ones got together and caused some trouble.

“It’s good that’s been cleared up now and I can’t think of anything bad happening since. Hopefully whoever’s taken it over won’t be attracting any trouble now because things have definitely calmed down.

“It was a good decision to close it down for a while – thank God they did. Upwards and onwards now hopefully.”

David Clayton, 55, who lives nearby, said: “There are always going to be problems here. I had heard about that place closing down, and, apparently there had been fighting and things like that. It sounds like they needed to shut it down.

“Yes it’s good for the area, but I think that needs to be done more often – take quick action when it needs to be taken and hopefully there’ll be less of that sort of thing going on.”

A sign on the front of the property says ‘Grillers Peri Peri & Pizza’ will be ‘opening soon.’
