Residents excited by plan to build 100 more homes
GROWING ESTATE ‘WITH BAGS OF POTENTIAL’ SET TO EXPAND FURTHER
HOMEOWNERS on a Nottingham housing estate with “a lot of potential” say they are excited about plans for more than 100 new houses.
Work is set to begin on another phase of new homes at the major Edwalton Fields development just off Melton Road, Edwalton, after detailed plans were given the goahead by Rushcliffe Borough Council.
The housebuilder – part of the Vistry Group, which incorporates Bovis Homes, Linden Homes and Vistry Partnerships – is to build a selection of two- to five-bedroomed homes for private sale and a range of one- to four-bedroomed homes as affordable housing for local people through rent or shared ownership.
Vistry is to build the homes as another phase of its Bovis Homes development at Edwalton Fields, where it has already delivered a range of two to five-bedroom homes.
Residents had previously expressed concerns over issues such as the road surface and heavy worksite traffic, with Bovis stating they have been working hard to complete work and solve other issues raised by residents.
Khawan Latif, who only moved into the area recently, said: “It’s a nice development. It’s got all the types of problems that new builds have. But it’s never anything too bad.
“Some things are really nice – the neighbours, for example, are lovely. It’s a nice community here.
“Hopefully things will work quite well when everything is open. They’ve just announced that there is going to be a community centre, which should be nice.
“I only really chose to live here because of a lack of housing in general – I don’t think it would have been my first preference.”
Sylvia Hayes, who moved to the area about a year ago, added: “I think it’s a great area, I really do.
“It’s very quiet, which is perfect for us.
“Everybody speaks to everybody else. It’s really nice and I would recommend it to anyone.”
Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “I think there’s a lot to like here. It’s got bags of potential.
“I guess the only problem is that it’s not finished yet so it doesn’t feel completely like home yet.
“When you have a lot of work going on, it’s not going to, is it?
“Look at all the houses – they’re all new builds,. They look great. There is lots of parking as well. On a sunny day like this it’s fantastic.
“Hopefully the process of building the new homes won’t affect us that much.
“It’s something we always knew was going to happen, so I don’t think anyone can moan, really.” The wider development at Edwalton has seen the opening of a new primary school, Rosecliffe Spencer Academy. A community centre, a public open space and a community park featuring a BMX track will also be opened. There is currently a threebedroom showhome available to reserve at the development, priced from £164,998. Freya Halsall, marketing assistant at Vistry Mercia, said: “Edwalton Fields has proved to be a very popular development and we expect this high level of demand to continue through into the next phase of new homes. We are proud to be playing a significant role in the delivery of this major new neighbourhood which will bring many benefits to the local community.
“This latest phase of homes at Edwalton Fields demonstrates our continued commitment to the project and we look forward to starting construction work on site in the coming months. Edwalton Fields is a sustainable development which has been designed to blend in with its surroundings and provide a restful and calm environment for residents. Footpaths and cycleways will link the site to the community park and the nearby 23-acre Sharphill Wood which offers the chance to get back to nature.
“The development has broad appeal and provides residents with the best of both worlds – an attractive setting with woodlands on the doorstep and Nottingham city centre just five miles away. The selection of bungalows, apartments and houses will attract a wide range of buyers which should ensure the growth of a vibrant new community.”
It’s something we always knew was going to happen, so I don’t see how anyone can moan, really Resident
