Tracks of its years

IN the centre of Hucknall, and less than a mile away from the Lincoln Green brewery is Lincoln Green pub The Station Hotel.

Built in 1892, this grand Victorian building was a Home Brewery pub before unfortunately running into disrepair. Lincoln Green took over in 2017 and refurbished the pub to its former glory, careful to ensure the building pays homage to the Victorian era by keeping many original features.

The renovation has created a beautiful pub, with a bar in the middle of the building and a room on each side. Both rooms are large and spacious with wood panelling, plaid fabrics on the Chesterfield-style benches and ornate wallpaper – a very traditional setting to enjoy a beer. There is a smaller room next to the large bar, a more cosy space for a quieter pint. The Station, as the name suggests, pays tribute to the railways that once surrounded the pub in the 19th century. They may have gone but the relics and memorabilia are displayed throughout the pub. One of my favourite things to do is to wander through a pub and take in all of the decor and the history on the walls of the Station is a vast and impressive collection.

The Station hosts nine different cask ales over 18 pumps with the range the same on each side of the pub. Four casks will always be the Lincoln Green core range with the other five changing often from guest beers to monthly specials and seasonal brews from the brewery.

2022 marks 10 years of Lincoln Green Brewery, which brewed its first beer on May 2, 2012. To mark the anniversary, Lincoln Green brewed a beer made with 10 different hops. Decade is a 5.2% Steampunk American IPA.

The beer has an intense hop aroma. Complex, yet balanced. Decade is a beer well suited to mark a decade of a local brewery – and how far they have come during that time!

I also had a pint of Lincoln Green’s Adit, a 5.4% New England-style IPA, which was slightly fruity, sweet with a hint of bitterness.

What I have come to know from each Lincoln Green pub,is that they keep their cask ales exceptionally well. The teams are well versed in cellaring and keep and serve to a high standard.
