A HOTEL has put forward a plan for the “attractive” addition of holiday homes in a Nottinghamshire village.

Eight new holiday homes could be built at Belvoir Hotel, on Grantham Road in Whatton, if fresh proposals are approved by Rushcliffe Borough Council.

The 54 sq m properties have been designed to provide a comfortable space, with two bedrooms, bathroom and living/dining area within a relatively compact footprint.

It is intended they would provide short-stay holiday accommodation for visitors to explore the area.

The proposed units will also allow more flexibility in the running of the hotel, offering additional accommodation for potential hotel guests during periods of greater demand. According to a planning document, the hotel is “thriving” and additional accommodation of this type would provide increased capacity and flexibility whilst having a minimal effect on the surrounding areas.

The applicant also argued the holiday homes would serve to enhance the sustainability of the existing hotel and the local and wider tourism industry, with local retail outlets within a short drive or cycle.

They also claimed the development would provide better employment opportunities for existing hotel staff and create extra jobs through the cleaning, maintenance, management and administration of the development.

The proposed units in the plan are in a similar style and would provide an “appearance harmonious with the existing hotel building but with a more contemporary and clean appearance”.

In a planning document, MBDP Architecture Ltd, on behalf of applicant Paradise Hospitality Ltd, said: “The construction of eight new holiday homes on a hotel site will also serve to enhance the local economy, whilst providing an efficient and sustainable use of the available land, with a use clearly compatible with the existing hotel as well as the nearby leisure facilities.

“The proposed development respects the character of the surrounding buildings, and provides an attractive addition which should enhance the site and local economy, whilst providing additional capacity for the existing hotel.”

The application is pending consideration by Rushcliffe Borough Council.
