New broom needed at Houses of Parliament

-

WHY are we tolerating the dumbing down of our politicians? Matt Hancock asked to be selected to represent his constituents. Therefore he entered into a contract to act on their behalf for the duration of his tenure.

He is not free to do anything else, so why is he not being sued for breach of contract by his constituents?

He took on a role that matters a great deal to his local voters. He is their mouthpiece, and as such that mouth should be present in the House of Commons, not thousands of miles away in a totally undignified activity that does not befit a member of the British parliament (or any sane individual).

He should be sacked and replaced by someone prepared to do the job for which he or she is elected. This role has been abused for far too long.

The current crop, with a few exceptions, are there only for the money. At the very least they get a good salary with expenses and an amazing pension for simply holding that position for a short period.

It doesn’t matter if they get sacked after six months, the pension will be paid as soon as they reach retirement age.

When the above is considered, it’s hardly surprising that we are governed by moneygrabbers who cannot plan far enough ahead to avoid the obvious.

We oscillate between one disaster and the next – all these could be predicted based on the available facts AND history.

Governments do not learn from history, mainly because they are not looking, If they were, they would realise that the only way to plan for a trouble-free future would be to have long-term policies that far exceed their period in office.

They won’t do that because some of the glory of these longterm plans would garland their successors, and that just wouldn’t do. In their ignorance, they don’t realise that all the things that need long-term planning adds to the prosperity of all.

We deserve full-time professional MPS. I don’t mean those queue-jumping public school types or the closed shop-selected toffs. I’m talking about those of us who have slogged our way up through industry and created jobs and invested in our own ideas with all the risks that entails.

The heartache of failure and picking ourselves up again and having another go, despite the obstacles placed in our way by outdated financial thinking.

This country is still operating to outmoded thinking and monetary practices that stifle innovation and progress.

It’s time for a complete overhaul of the electoral system that removes all the outmoded practices doggedly protected by the Establishment. Clear out all sitting peers. Let’s eradicate hereditary practices such as the House of Lords. The name of the second house should be scrapped. If there are Lords, then we are Serfs! There’s 26 bishops in there. Why?

Governing a country is a serious business, we need a second house of dynamic people. Get rid of gongs, peerages etc. No elevating of one individual above another. If you want a reward for doing a job, become a bandit.
