TWO men swung knives and jabbed at each other during a terrifying crime in a home.

It happened in the multi-occupancy address of defendant David Carroll, in Lindley Street, Mansfield.

Carroll was angry and annoyed by the presence of co-accused Jack Edwards due to a previous grievance between the two, Nottingham Crown Court was told yesterday.

Edwards was on the receiving end to begin with – but grew more aggressive when both men ran upstairs. Eventually it was Carroll who retreated, while Edwards decided to stab a door 20 times. Both men were jailed for ten months after pleading guilty to affray. Edwards was given a ninemonth jail sentence consecutively for possessing a knife. Lucy Jones, prosecuting, said the pair pleaded guilty at the first opportunity over the incident on October 12. The trouble started in the lounge, where another resident was sitting. Edwards was in the corner of the room, when Carroll arrived.

Carroll entered the kitchen and returned with a knife.

“The Crown say he is the instigator of the first confrontation,” said Miss Jones.

As the conflict moved upstairs, another resident ran and barricaded herself in her room. Edwards, of White House Road, Bircotes, had a knife and was bleeding from a self-inflicted wound.

Carroll, 40, has 31 convictions after 13 court appearances. He previously appeared for possessing a blade and battery.

Matt Hayes, for Carroll, said he was engaging with the charity Change Grow Live.

Edwards, 23, has convictions for two robberies, possessing a knife and battery.

Luc Chignell, for Edwards, said it was an isolated incident.
