Wonderland lights up skies

THESE stunning aerial pictures by Andrew Springthorpe/airlessmean show the Winter Wonderland in Old Market Square in a whole new light.

The festive event opened on Tuesday to kick off Nottingham’s countdown to Christmas, bringing with it food, drink, skating and festive cheer.

Dominating Slab Square is the new aerial ice path, Sky Skate, where skaters can glide above the heads of the crowd below.

Old Market Square and Long Row have been taken over by Swiss-style chalets selling Yuletide gifts, filling Yorkshire pudding wraps and warming hot chocolate or mulled wine and there are a number of bars.

Winter Wonderland runs until New Year’s Eve.
