Drivers clamped in park and ride rules crackdown
CAMPAIGN HITS HUNDREDS AS TRAM FIRM GETS TOUGH
HUNDREDS of drivers have had their vehicles clamped or issued with warning notices for breaking parking rules at the Forest park and ride site.
Nottingham tram operator NET has been targeting motorists for offences including parking on walkways and outside bays.
Since October 17, around 80 vehicles have been clamped at the Forest site, and more than 240 warning notices have been issued for minor infringements of the rules.
Once a vehicle is clamped, the driver must pay a fine of £140 for it to be released.
The campaign involves monitoring the site due to an ongoing problem with drivers parking outside bays, parking in disabled bays without a blue badge, and blocking transformer substations and pedestrian walkways.
NET says that, since the campaign began, the average number of vehicles being clamped has fallen from an average of around three or four a day in the first two weeks to just one or two a day in November.
Trevor Stocker, head of operations at NET, said: “As well as being welcomed by the vast majority of our customers, these measures are clearly delivering the desired results.

Mr Stocker added: “However, we are disappointed that a small minority of drivers continue to flout the rules, including parking in disabled spaces without a blue badge, and we will continue to target this selfish behaviour while considering whether to extend the campaign to our other park and ride sites.”
