Tributes to city man who died on site of nuclear power plant
A CHARITY APPEAL has been set up for the family of a Nottingham man killed at a nuclear power plant construction site
More than £70,000 has so far been raised for the family of Jason Waring, who had worked as a supervisor at Hinkley Point C in Somerset since 2018.
The fundraising page was set up by Luke Mcgrew, a friend of the father of four. Mr Mcgrew said that Jason “worked hard to provide for his family and always had a good sense of humour” while being “liked by many people across the project with his northern wit”.
According to EDF Energy, the “construction traffic incident” happened during “planned work activities” at the nuclear power station. The incident is being investigated by both the police and the Health & Safety Executive.
Avon and Somerset Police were called to the site at 8.30am on November 13 and a man in his 60s has voluntary turned himself in to them. Work was paused after the tragedy, but has since resumed.
His wife Sarah said: “Jason was a devoted and loving father who did everything for me and his sons and daughter. He was also a great friend, very loyal to many, and was always the life and soul of the party. We will miss him terribly.”
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: “Officers continue to liaise with the Office for Nuclear Regulation and enquiries into the man’s death, which isn’t currently being treated as suspicious, are ongoing. Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this sad time.”
