MP Lee Anderson asks Jason Zadrozny to stand down
MP Lee Anderson is calling on Ashfield District Council leader Jason Zadrozny to step down after six Ashfield Independent councillors were arrested.
Mr Anderson wants Councillor Zadrozny remove himself from his role after Wednesday’s arrests.
Simultaneous police searches were carried outas part of an investigation into allegations of fraud in Sutton-in-ashfield, Kirkbyin-ashfield, Underwood, and Stanton Hill.
Three people were arrested on suspicion of fraud and electoral offences, and others on suspicion of fraud, money laundering and misconduct in public office.
In a letter to Mr Zadrozny, Mr Anderson says: “You should now step aside from your duties as council leader until the investigation has been completed.”
The six individuals arrested have been released. A council spokesperson said: “The arrests yesterday of a number of Ashfield Independent councillors is an ongoing police matter and the council should not and will not comment further at this time.”
