RESIDENTS in Mapperley Park have spoken out about life in the “picturesque” area.

Many of the people we spoke to agree that Mapperley Park is perfect for taking walks.

The neighbourhood, minutes away from Sherwood and Carrington, is also loved for its trees and architecture. Despite its close proximity to the city centre, neighbours agree that the area is quiet.

This year, some l residents spotted Vicky Mcclure in the area filming with Channel 4.

Neighbours who say the area is “like a village” only have the amount of autumn leaves to sweep up to complain about.

Many houses in Mapperley Park are either Victorian or Edwardian. The area also has a private tennis club on Carisbrooke Drive.

Denise Faulkner, 62, who runs Denise’s Dog Walking Service, has lived there for three years since moving from Kent.

She said: “I love it. Despite living only a mile away from the city, it’s really quiet.

“We have good bus service, living here is convenient and people are neighbourly and friendly.”

Denise spoke about places she likes to go not too far away in the area. Many of the places are in Sherwood. She added: “We like Tipu Sultan and The Gladstone. There’s also Pistachio in Sherwood too.”.

Jean Pearson, 89 has lived in the area since 2003.

Now retired, Jean said: “It is a community here. I love the trees. the leaves can be a pain to sweep up but they get replaced when they’ve died. I shop in both Carrington and Sherwood.”

Jean spoke about what she doesn’t like about the area.

She joked: “All the hills! But that’s all of Nottingham for you.”

Over the last year, Mapperley Park properties sold for an average of £290,404, with semi-detached properties selling for an average of £423,125.

Louise Furlow, 37 who works in the fashion industry and lives in Mapperley Park, likes both the area and her neighbours.

She said: “It’s nice here, pretty. It’s like a village.

“I shop in Lidl, Carrington mostly.” Louise spoke about any stand-out moments in the area, she said: “We had Channel 4 down here for Vicky Mcclure for like three weeks.”

Leslie Barrett, 68 lives near Sherwood and Carrington.

Leslie visits Mapperley Park on a regular basis.

He said: “It’s a good place for walking and squirrel watching. I take a lot of walks down here because of the hills – they’re good for exercise and the area’s very picturesque.

“I like architecture. I’ve lived in Nottingham since the 70s and I’ve watched how the area has developed.”

Leslie continued: “There are more modern properties that try to blend in with the old.”

Leslie, who lives in flats, has a good view of Mapperley Park.

He said: “It’s a nice view and I can watch the seasons change.”

Grace James, 39, who works in finance and has lived in Mapperley Park for two years, said: “It can be dark at night because of all the trees but it’s a lovely area. “Even if people don’t know you, they’ll say hello or wave. I shop in the Lidl and Co-op most of the time and to get my steps in, I like taking walks to Sherwood on my days off. It’s an ideal place to live. The houses are lovely and most of the time, it’s really quiet.”
