Brindley can see positives despite frustrating draw

- By OLIVER KING

RICHARD Brindley says Notts County have to take their goalless draw against Yeovil Town “on the chin” and regroup.

It was the first time Notts had failed to score in front of their home supporters since April 2021, ending a 39-game run that stretched back to Ian Burchnall’s time at the club.

“Everyone can see that we dominated the whole game, it’s frustrating and it almost feels like a loss when you play so well,” said Brindley.

“I think it was just one of those days.

“They made it very difficult for us and they sat in the whole time. We said at the start of the second half, as soon as it kicked off, they just backed off and had no interest in scoring a goal.

“When you play teams like that, they make it really difficult for you.

“We are going to have more games like that and that is part and parcel of us playing some really good football and being so difficult to beat.

“We have to take that on the chin and learn what we can do better because I am sure many teams will want to play in the same way against us.”

Brindley questioned Yeovil’s desire to try and win the game but added that the Magpies will look at the positives in the performance.

“There are two sides that want to win the game out there, supposedly, but when we play teams like that they have no desire to win the game,” Brindley added.

“But tactically they can get a counter and score a goal whereas we go into the game wanting to dictate.

“There are so many positives to look at today and we need to make sure that we are not too frustrated with not winning, because we know we can’t win every single game.

“But again, we have the mentality as a squad where we know we can keep doing more and every single game we look to get better and better.”

NOTTS County head coach Luke Williams said it is the right time to rest Aaron Nemane.

The 25-year-old has not featured for the Magpies in their last two fixtures, with Tobi Adebayo-rowling deputising at right-wing back.

Nemane enjoyed a brilliant start to the season, featuring in 16 of Notts’ 20 games so far this campaign, having missed the opening two games through a suspension carried over from the 2021-22 season.

He made only 22 appearances under Ian Burchnall last season, operating in a much more advanced position to what we have seen from him this season.

Williams says the recent schedule has taken its toll on the full-back.

“Aaron is feeling an accumulation of how much he has played this season,” said Williams.

“I don’t think he has much history of playing this many games consistently but he has done incredible and has been so good.

“But we felt it was the right time to take him out of the firing line a little bit.

“It was an opportunity to give him a different programm. When you are on the bench, of course you can only do certain things because you may be required to come on the pitch after five minutes.

“And if you are aching, or you are sore and you worked really hard the day before, it is impossible.

“So, we have tried to change his programme a little bit to try and get him back to top form so that we can introduce him back into the team for our next game.”
