Police tried to stop vehicle before crash

-

THE police watchdog has confirmed it has been notified about a serious collision in Trowell yesterday morning.

It comes after Derbyshire Constabulary said officers had tried to stop the vehicle involved in the crash.

One vehicle was involved and three people from it have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The incident happened at around 4am where the A609 Ilkeston Road, the A609 Nottingham Road and the A6007 Stapleford Road meet, near to the Festival Inn at Trowell.

Derbyshire officers have now contacted the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) about the incident. A Derbyshire Constabulary spokesperson said earlier: “Officers had attempted to stop the vehicle around 3.50am and we have contacted the IOPC to alert them to the incident, which is standard procedure due to the police contact prior to the collision.”

A spokesperson for the IOPC told the Post: “We were notified by Derbyshire Constabulary about this incident early today and understand a referral is being made to us.”

As a result of the road closures, Trowell CE Primary School was closed yesterday.
