Death of person hit by train

A PERSON has died after being hit by a train.

Police were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks in the Attenborou­gh area at 7.21pm on Tuesday but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

British Transport Police said a file would be prepared for the coroner.

East Midlands Railway (EMR) confirmed that someone had been hit by a train between Nottingham Station and East Midlands Parkway.

Nottingham and Newark Castle services were disrupted, as well as routes in London, Crewe, Leicester, Lincoln and Grimsby.

Trains running through the area in both directions could not run between Nottingham and East Midlands Parkway and Long Eaton.

EMR said: “We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train between Nottingham and East Midland Parkway.”

British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line in Chilwell at 7.21pm. Paramedics also attended. However sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
