ONE LAST THING
There are some things in life from which most human beings automatically recoil.
The sight of a fat rat on top of a bin; the sound of Noddy Holder bellowing “It’s Christmaaassss!” for the 20th time that day; the thought of Donald Trump in his undies...
Then there are other things which should, by right, give you the ick but somehow don’t – like garlic bread (thanks Peter Kay).
I can’t yet decide into which camp Heinz Christmas Dinner Soup falls.
Is it right to have the biggest, arguably most important meal of the year reduced to something you re-heat in a pan?
Or is it genius? Perfect if you’re cooking for one. Ideal if you can’t be bothered to get up at 6am on Christmas Day to peel the spuds.
We may look back on this and realise the arrival of Christmas in a tin was the high-point of human inventiveness. I draw the line at a Christmas pudding in a buttie, though.
