NOTTINGHAM shoppers have spoken of their shock after a woman was injured in a collision with a bus on one of the busiest roads in the city centre.

Emergency services were called to a collision between a bus and a pedestrian shortly after 2pm yesterday on Lower Parliament Street outside the

Victoria Centre.

Part of the road between Glasshouse street and Milton Street remained closed into the evening, with delays reported in the area and buses diverted.

Police said one woman was injured but her condition was unknown at the time this edition went to press.

People around the Victoria Centre after the collision expressed their concern.

Colin Dejacolyn, 69, from Radford, said: “I’m shocked to see all the commotion, but I am not surprised it has happened here.

“This junction is so busy with shoppers going to and from the Victoria Centre and with buses too. It must be the busiest area of Nottingham city centre, so it is going to cause a lot of problems too having this closed.”

George Kay, 74, from Nottingham, said: “I’m not surprised an accident has happened here because you have a lot of people crossing at once and a lot of buses coming through. I had only just arrived into the city centre when it happened. It is all a bit of a shock.”

The accident seriously disrupted transport in the city centre. Bus passengers were provided with diversion information by NCT staff and police officers at the scene.

A Nottingham resident, who did not want to be named, said: “This junction having an accident is not really that unexpected. I hope the woman is all right, God bless her.

Police have appealed for witnesses. Inspector Rich Markham, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We were called shortly after 2pm to reports of a collision between a bus and a pedestrian. One woman is reported to be injured but her condition is currently unknown.”

The road fully reopened at around 7.30pm.

The woman’s condition was still unknown at the time this edition went to press.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call 101, quoting incident 372 of November 23, 2022.
