Wales have a chance to do the nation proud

-

BEFORE the World Cup match between Wales and the USA, I watched a TV programme entitled Against All The Odds. Wales had waited over 50 years to qualify to play in the World Cup.

Against All The Odds went beyond the game of football. It showed for how long the Welsh language had been suppressed by the English.

When I entered the University of Wales in 1961, at the age of 16, the Welsh language was not even officially recognised in Wales. What a terrible disgrace. During my years at an English public school in North Wales from 1953 to 1961, about a dozen local Welsh pupils attended it on a daily basis from Monday to Friday.
