A 31-YEAR-OLD man accused of the murders of Fatoumatta Hydara and her two young daughters made his first court appearance yesterday after being charged following a fire at the family’s home.

As news of the tragedy unfolded this week, police confirmed on Thursday evening they had charged Jamie Barrow, of Fairisle Close, Clifton, with their murders.

Barrow, wearing a pale grey sweatshirt top and bottoms, was brought from police custody for a brief hearing at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

This is a formality before cases of such seriousness are sent to a higher court.

Barrow was told he would appear at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday.

He gave his address in Fairisle Close, his name as Jamie Edwin Barrow and date of birth as September 14, 1991.

The charges put to him were that he allegedly murdered Fatoumatta

Hydara at an address in Fairlisle Close, on Tuesday.

He is also alleged to have murdered three-year-old Fatimah Drammeh at the same address as her mother on Sunday.

The last charge read out was the alleged murder of Naeemah Drammeh, who was one year old, on the same day as Fatimah, and at their address.

During the two-minute hearing, Barrow clasped his hands behind his

back as he was led into the court room by a custody officer. He spoke clearly as he gave his details.

No more details were given about the allegations.

The judge told Barrow that the three allegations he faces had to be heard at the crown court and accordingly, “I am sending all three of these matters to Nottingham Crown Court for an initial hearing on Monday, November 28, at 10am”.

Barrow was remanded into custody for Monday’s hearing.

The case comes after former voluntary worker Fatoumatta, 28, and her two daughters died as a result of a fire in their flat in Fairisle Close in the early hours of Sunday.

On Wednesday, Fatoumatta’s husband, Aboubacarr Drammeh, 40, paid tribute to his late wife and daughters.

Mr Drammeh – who flew back to Britain from America following the devastating fire in the early hours of Sunday – said: “It is with great sadness that we have lost Fatoumatta and our two daughters in such a tragic way.”

Assistant Chief Constable Rob Griffin, of Nottinghamshire Police, had said: “Our thoughts remain with the family at this incredibly painful time, as well as the communities that have been affected by this most tragic of incidents.

“The grief this family has been put through is incomprehensible.”

He added: “Large teams of detectives have been working relentlessly alongside specialist search units and forensic experts to understand the full circumstances behind this deliberate fire.”
