WINNERS of the Robin Hood Mini Marathon school challenge have been announced.

It comes after more than 1,000 schoolchildren took part in a 1.5-mile run.

The Robin Hood Mini Marathon took place on September 25 and the award ceremony took place on Tuesday at the city’s Hilton Hotel.

Prizes were awarded to more than 80 children across a range of age categories; under 7, under 9, under 11, under 13, under 15 and under 17.

The winners were presented with a glass trophy.

For the first time, the competition was so close that the first and third place school awards were awarded jointly. West Bridgford Junior School and Abbey Road School were crowned joint overall schools, scooping the first place award.

Runners-up Jesse Gray Primary School and St Edmund Campion School were both presented with the third place award.

Sofia Chesterfield secured first place for the overall girls winner.

Xanthe Adiseshiah-mcguire finished second and Lyla Morrow third.

Luke Hesketh won the overall boys race, with Sam Collins in second place and Adam Scrimshaw in third.

Race director Judith Manson said: “Tonight was a perfect send-off for the 2022 event.

“The Mini Marathon is such an important part of the event and has always been one of the biggest minimarathon events in the country. The 1.5-mile route is a fun communityfocused race that sees school children running alongside their parents, friends, siblings, teachers or anyone else that you can persuade.

“The enthusiasm from the kids, parents and the schools is always fantastic and we’re so grateful for the support. What makes this part of the event so worthwhile is seeing so many active children who love running.

“Congratulations to all the winners and for everyone who took part this year. We’re already looking forward to welcoming you all again in 2023.”

Winners of the Nottingham Post Corporate Challenge were also recognised for their achievements.

Copley Chasers claimed top spot, Mazars came second, and Nelsons secured third place.

The Corporate Challenge race sees team members running in both the Half Marathon and Mini Marathon with the chip times of the fastest two members running in each distance used to determine the overall winners.

The Corporate Challenge is growing each year and is a great way for businesses to get involved, support their staff and give back to the community they live and work in.

Entries for the 2023 Half Marathon, Mini Marathon and Corporate Challenge are open, with entries to suit all pockets. Half Marathon entries start at £25 and Mini Marathon entries are £15.
