POLICE APPEAL AFTER STREET STABBING
POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed in a residential street in Clifton.
Officers were called to reports of a fight in Woodsford Grove just after 6.30pm on Sunday.
The victim, a man in his 20s, suffered stab wounds and was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Cordons remained in place in the Woodsford Grove and Rivergreen areas and there was no access to the road from the Ellerby Avenue end to Woodsford Grove and Woodford, according to residents.
Detective Inspector Chris Berryman, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Whilst this incident is naturally a concern for the local community, we do believe this was an isolated incident and those involved were likely known to one another.
“We are working hard to understand exactly what happened during this incident and would like to speak with any additional witnesses who have not already spoken to us.
“I want to urge anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has any knowledge or CCTV footage to please get in touch as quickly as possible.”
Residents spoke out about their shock over the cordon.
Teacher Louise Bateman, 46, of Hucknall, said: “I think it is good to see such a large police presence. There are so many students passing through as well so it is important to keep people here safe.”
She added: “Police are stretched as it is so it is important to protect communities when something like this happens in their area. But I don’t feel in danger here.”
NTU student Marek Czeshowski, 20, said it was like “a dark cloud is hanging over Clifton”.
He said: “I am disturbed really to hear about another incident happening here.”
Students heading to the Clifton campus have to walk through Rivergreen.
Marek added: “I am just going to walk around.”
Walking through the estate on his way home, Charles Baddeley, 83, of Silverdale, said: “I am bit concerned because this is quite a big cordon. It is a bit worrying when there are too many incidents happening in one place.
“It seems like there’s one incident after another. It can happen anywhere at the end of the day but you don’t want too many in one place.
