Police probe goes on after council arrests

DETECTIVES are continuing their enquiries after six arrests were made involving a number of Ashfield Independen­t councillor­s.

On November 16, Nottingham­shire Police arrested the individual­s as part of their investigat­ion into allegation­s of fraud and misconduct in public office.

Warrants were served as police simultaneo­usly called at addresses in Sutton-in-ashfield, Kirkby-inashfield, Underwood and Stanton Hill. Of those arrested, three were arrested on suspicion of fraud and electoral offences, and others were questioned on suspicion of fraud, money laundering and misconduct in public office.

All six were subsequent­ly released. Police said no further updates were available at this time.
