Teachers at college walk out over pay

-

TEACHERS at a college in Nottingham are set to go on strike over pay.

Members of the National Education Union (NEU) who work at Bilborough College will walk out today as part of national industrial action.

The union, which represents most teachers at the post-16 school in College Way, said teachers have suffered a realterms pay cut of an estimated 20 per cent since 2010. Teachers will picket the college from 8.15am.

A further 77 colleges across England will also see staff walk out.

Sheena Wheatley, Nottingham NEU branch secretary, said: “Our members are dedicated to the college, its students and the community it serves. They have worked tirelessly to provide an excellent education.

“Sadly they have seen their pay decline for many years as their workload has increased. They now face a real terms pay cut and a cost of living crisis. The NEU is calling on the Government to fund a proper inflation-linked pay rise that recognises the work teachers at Bilborough do.”
