Johnson ‘is going to be some player’ says Rush

-

LIVERPOOL and Wales legend Ian Rush thinks big things are in store for Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson after claiming he is going to become “some player”.

Johnson, who was brought off the Wales bench for the third time of the World Cup against England on Tuesday, replaced Gareth Bale at halftime with the score still at 0-0.

Shortly after his introduction, through no fault of his, England took the lead after Marcus Rashford’s stunning free-kick beat Danny Ward in the Wales goal before Phil Foden quickly doubled the lead for Gareth Southgate’s men just moments later.

The match finished 3-0 to England, with Wales failing to score for the second game in a row as they crashed out of their first World Cup finals in over 60 years but it was a proud time for Johnson making his World Cup bow.

Former striker Rush has tipped big things to come from Johnson, who played just 91 minutes across three games, as he progresses through his career.

Covering the game for BBC last night as a pundit, Rush commented on the bright future for the Forest man when he saw that he was being substituted on.

“I would like to see what this young lad can do in this game. He’s going to be some player this one, he’s a great player,” said Rush.
