Underpaid pensioners getting their share

-

THOUSANDS of pensioners have been underpaid by the DWP; in some cases, stretching back decades, relating mainly to women, particularly widows!

I lived through a period where such proud people, my mother included, eked out a living while bringing up a family of three children – steadfast to the core.

They have waited too long a time, for the “levelling up” on pensions. We now know this will happen this coming spring when the “triple lock” pension payments kick into place. Deservedly so. Councillor John M Parr

Plains Ward Gedling Borough Council stage, we had discrimination, which is still present today, and in some areas we have slaves working, which became evident in finding everyone in respect to the coronavirus immunisation. Even recently we have seen court cases on the matter.

I am a strong believer that sport should not be used as a political hammer, which can divide a nation on its beliefs or principles.

Where is football’s morality when players are sometimes paid salaries looking like telephone numbers? How much has Marcus Rashford made since pleading and crusading with the Government to help feed schoolchildren going hungry?

Football has become a rich business with players selling their souls as well. We do not have heroes, we have marketing icons, with players promoting their symbol after scoring a goal.

Whatever happened to the working person’s game, where one could go to watch the local team and afford the entrance fee?

Today, most of those on low incomes or benefits have to wait until the exclusive offers appear, where club owners want numbers going through the turnstiles to support the team in its efforts to achieve promotion.

One must ask whether sports will be only available on a subscription basis.

It is the same with rugby union – how many clubs are going to the wall or not far off?
