Legends receive an upgrade for return to island

Apex Legends: Season 20 Xbox, also PS, Switch & PC ★★★★

IT’S been five years since Apex Legends launched. Five years of surviving an ever-enclosing ring, battling for survival to be the last team standing on an island designed for future blood sports.

Five years of meeting up online once a week with friends to catch up and die trying.

So, Season 20 has arrived, marking the celebration of this excellent shooter’s milestone, while introducing some pretty radical changes to how the game is played. The basics remain the same, although how that’s achieved has received a significant rework.

Traditionally, armour power-ups could be found on the ground, allowing you to quickly boost yours if you got lucky.

Instead, they’ve been removed entirely. The only way to improve your armour is by getting into fights and completing activities such as using Survey Beacons.

It’s a huge change but a welcome one that means the start of the match relies less on luck.

Alongside this change is a complete rework of each character’s skillset through the addition of perks that are tied into the armour system.

With the first two armour upgrades earned, you’re given a choice between two perks to enhance your character.

The changes across all the legends are too numerous to mention but the effect is a complete shake up of the meta, with lots of interesting choices to make depending on your play style.

Alongside much requested changes to the ranking system and a 120hz mode for consoles, Apex Legends is feeling fresh and a whole lot of fun.
