David Lean’s Oscar-winning epic romantic drama is set during the Russian Revolution and follows Yuri Zhivago (Omar Sharif), a married doctor who falls for Lara (Julie Christie, pictured with Sharif), the beautiful wife of a political activist. He’s torn between his commitment to his wife and his passion for his mistress.

Cy Endfield’s stirring historical drama is based on the true story of the 1879 battle between British soldiers and Zulu warriors. An upper-class soldier and his fellow officers lead just 100 men against more than 4,000 tribesmen in the clash. This was Michael Caine’s first major big-screen role.

Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-laden thriller sees Leonardo Dicaprio (right) play a cop trying to infiltrate a violent crime syndicate in Boston. What he doesn’t know is the mob boss has his own mole – highflying detective Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon).

My Best Friend’s Wedding Wednesday, Film4, 6.55pm

Julia Roberts gives one of her best-ever performanc­es in this rom-com, as a food critic who realises that her friend Michael (Dermot Mulroney) is the love of her life. Unfortunat­ely, this only dawns on her after he tells her he’s about to marry beautiful heiress Kimmy (Cameron Diaz).

Fans of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead won’t be disappoint­ed in the final of the so-called ‘Cornetto trilogy’. Five mates reunite for a pub crawl, only to find themselves trying to avert Armageddon. Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman and Eddie Marsan star.
