Family ‘terrified’ as van set on fire outside home

-

A FAMILY were left shocked when a van was set ablaze outside their home in an apparently random arson attack.

Nichola Ince and her husband Adrian said the incident, which happened on Park Drive in Hucknall, was “terrifying”.

The pair were asleep when they were awoken by their son Callum’s shouts. Mrs Ince looked out of the window to see her husband’s work van engulfed in flames. She said: “It was terrifying. I was worried because my husband had filled the tank. We were thinking ‘It’s going to go. It’s going to blow’.

“We woke the neighbours and got one of them to move the car. I thought the house was going to go up.”

The fire, on Saturday, February 19, was just metres from their home. Mrs Ince said: “The door was hot. I was like: ‘Oh my God.’ It was massive.”

She ran outside in her bare feet and took a hosepipe to the flames but it was to little avail. The fire brigade arrived around ten minutes later and put the fire out.

Later on, sitting in the living room unable to sleep, the family were startled by an early-morning knock on the door. It was an armed response officer, who said a person had been arrested. The officer told Nichola that he did not think they had been targeted.

The attack, which was captured on the family’s Ring doorbell, appeared to be a completely random incident.

Mrs Ince said: “Adrian’s vans have been targeted a few times for the tools but this is new. I just don’t get it. It’s really, really odd. We haven’t got an answer.”

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service said the cause of the fire was “suspected deliberate ignition”.
